ERIC CLAPTON Announces J.J. CALE Tribute Album
05 May 2014Eric Clapton has often given props to the late, laid-back roots-rock guitarist/singer/songwriter J.J. Cale.
Clapton scored some of the biggest hit singles of his solo career with covers of Cale’s “After Midnight” and “Cocaine.”
In 2006, the duo released an album together, The Road to Escondido.
Now, nearly a year after Cale’s passing at age 74, Clapton has announced that he’s putting out an all-star tribute to the man.
Credited to “Eric Clapton & Friends,” The Breeze, An Appreciation of J.J. Cale will feature guest appearances by a cast of major stars, including former Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty and soon-to-be-former-Allman-Brothers-Band-member Derek Trucks.
The album is named after Cale’s 1972 single “Call Me The Breeze,” which was later popularized by Lynyrd Skynyrd, who covered it for their 1974 album, Second Helping.
The Breeze, An Appreciation of J.J. Cale is scheduled for a July 29 release.
