NICK CAVE is familiar with forging his own path. Remember when he released a book of barf bag notes? We do. Now, it appears the NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS frontman has implemented another alternative idea: to premiere a new album in the form of a concert film screening.

According to a film event posted on Los Angeles art house chain Laemmle Theatre’s website, “NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS’ new album will be released at midnight into 9th September 2016, with the film making its premiere on 8th September.”

The event also notes that, “contrary to usual practice,” no tracks will be pre-released to media or as singles. It makes clear the film screening will be the first time “anyone anywhere will be able to hear and experience the songs.”

The post adds that the “performance film” will feature “black and white, color and 3-D” footage. The choice in filming style is said to reflect the “intimacy and starkness” present on the mysterious new record.

Though the listing makes no mention of a title for neither the album nor the film, the record will serve as a follow-up to 2013’s excellent Push the Sky Away
