A limited edition ВЈ5 British coin featuring John Lennon is now available from the Royal Mint.

In July, the Royal Mint asked the public to choose their favourite Great Briton from a short list of six influential people in British history.

The former Beatle won by a landslide, with 92% of the vote (27,874 out of 30,267 votes), ahead of novelist Jane Austin, political activist Emmeline Pankhurst, engineer/inventor John Logie Baird, WWII fighter ace Douglas Bader and aristocrat Sir Walter Raleigh.

Lennon joins a prestigious list that includes William Shakespeare, Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale, among other important British figures who have been honored with coins.

Only 5,000 coins have been issued, plus a one-off 24-carat gold version of the coin, which will be given to Lennon's estate.
