The crossover gang I.T.S.I is pretty well known in the underground circles in Bulgaria. The people who play in this band have also been involved in a few acts that have left their landmark on the local scene in the last few years, like All of Us and Santeria. Now’s the time for the guys’ main project to release an album. “The Diary of a Psycho” is a really well chosen title. As you read the lyrics you can’t escape the feeling that the band’s semi-new vocalist Dido has some serious issues... Fuckin’ psycho! Among the topics touched in the psycho-audio-diary we have uncontrollable bursts of anger, psycho-transsexuals, schizophrenia... The psycho atmosphere is completed by maestro Toni’s heavyweight crossover riffing and a fuckin’ tight rhythm section. There’s a lot of extra weird sounds and samples that add an extra amount of atmosphere. The album’s standout moments are the least expected ones, like the melodic section midway through “Psycho” or the sudden outburst of black/detah metal riffing in “TV Weekend / Horror Weekend”. There is also a rap-core track named “Sunrise Borracho” where Dido threatens to terrorise his pop-folk-loving neighbour with Slipknot. This song doesn’t quite fit the big picture in my opinion, but hell... I.T.S.I’s debut is a pretty heavy album, both musically and emotionally. This gives it a sense of completeness, which is a really important quality for a full-length release. Apparently this kind of crossover music has a future even in Bulgaria since such strong albums still come out, even though the genre was thought depleted a few years ago.
