DAMON ALBARN refuses to end performance, gets carried off stage by security
06 July 2015At this weekend’s Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark, Damon Albarn broke curfew — and then some. His collective AFRICA EXPRESS — which also features YEAH YEAH YEAHS’ Nick Zinner, Seye Adeklan, and Songhoy Blues as members — performed a five-hour set that lasted until 4 a.m. And if he had his way, the set would probably would still be going.
Albarn seemed to be in particularly high spirits (and perhaps had a little too much to drink), leading the collective in lively covers of The Clash and Randy Newman as well as Gorillaz. He also brought out special guests including Blur bandmate Graham Coxon and Laura Mvula.
However, once the clock struck 4 a.m., festival organizers asked Albarn to wrap things up. He refused, instead encouraging the audience to cheer in support. Eventually, security carried him off stage. Truly one of the more surreal moments we’ve seen in some time.
