"I think "A Twist in the Myth" is a perfect bridge between the past and the present of Blind Guardian."

A blitz-interview with Blind Guardian's rhythm guitarist Marcus Siepen about the release of the German metal quartet's brand-new studio album "A Twist in the Myth".

Vassil Varbanov: Hello Marcus, how are you doing?

Marcus Siepen: I'm fine, how are you?

V. V.: Good! A great new album, finally! It's been 3 years since your latest studio release, "A Night at the Opera". How do you feel with the new one?

M. S.: We're perfectly happy, you know, we couldn't be any happier. We did exactly what we wanted to do. After we recorded "A Night at the Opera" and we sat down to write new songs, we just felt we had to do something different, because it didn't make sense to us to go on in the same direction. With this previous CD we reached the limits of what we could do, so we decided to come up with some straighter songs now, more to the point, with less choirs and harmony guitars, less classical orchestrations... and we're happy with the result! It has this kind of a back to the roots vibe in some aspects, but on the other hand, of course, it has a lot of things that we never did so far. I think "A Twist in the Myth" is a perfect bridge between the past and the present of the band.

V. V.: Can we say that the single "Fly" kind of speaks for the whole album, or it's just a song of it and all the others are quite different?

M. S.: There is no typical song for the album. "Fly" represents one aspect of "A Twist in the Myth", and each song is rather different from the rest on the CD. You have tracks like "Fly" that represent the modern side of Blind Guardian, that's why we chose it as the first single, but you also have pieces like "Straight Through the Mirror", for example, which represent a very traditional, typical speed metal side of the band. Then you've got "Another Stranger Me", which is gonna be the next single and the first video for the album - it has some kind of 70's rock in it... You know, we tried to come out with the biggest variety possible - in our oppinion, this keeps an album interesting. It will be boring if all the cuts are the same.
